This year, many great performers entertained the recipients of Utah’s Best of State awards. We were welcomed in the lobby of the Salt Palace Convention Center by the Vivaldi Quartet. A youth group who are 12 and 13 years old. They have performed in many locations in the USA and solos with the Utah Symphony. During the night’s event we were offered varied entertainment by performers such as Jason Hewlett – The Entertainer, Odyssey Dance Theatre, and Walt Gregory. For me, two additional performers really stood out to me, first being The American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic. This group of accomplished young musicians are all high school age from across Utah. The second group that left a lasting impression was Caleb Chapman’s Crescent Super Band. These 25 teenagers have been hailed as the top band of their type in the world and are making their debut at Carnegie Hall on May 21, 2013. What an amazing honor, to play Carnegie Hall. Congratulations! The Voodoo Orchestra also performed for our enjoyment. below you can see them in action at the gala.
I am thankful to my friends Dave and Lori Smith for joining me and my family for the celebration of so many successful and noteworthy award recipients.
The dinner served was surf and turf and dessert decadent.
For the fifth time in as many years, the judges have honored me with the medal for carving.
My words fail to express the level of my gratitude to all the many people involved with the Utah Best of State Gala. From Shauna Lake and Mark Koelbel who MC the event to the back of house staff who often go about their duties without any any note at all. I am impressed each time I attend the gala with every aspect of the production. Congratulations to everyone, far too numerous to mention individually, who made May 11, 2013 such a special night.
